By the time dinner rolls around, you have already made over 100 food decisions.
One hundred. Before you even open the refrigerator door at 5pm and stare into it like it might give you an answer.
That number does not include the work decisions, the parenting decisions, the scheduling decisions, or the thousand small calls you made before lunch. By dinnertime your brain is not lazy — it is genuinely, physiologically exhausted. Researchers call it decision fatigue, and it is the real reason the frozen pizza wins again.
Not because you do not care about your family’s nutrition. Because your mind has already run its daily marathon and you are asking it to sprint.
Here is the good news: you can make every single one of those dinner decisions when your mind is rested, clear, and actually enjoys the process. In one block of time, once a week. And I am going to show you exactly how.
I will be honest — I am a bit of a planning nerd. Maybe it is the satisfaction of not having to think about what we are eating tonight. Maybe it is the surge of quiet joy I feel when I glance at my calendar and everything is already there, written in beautiful colors to please the visual processor in me.
I know what we are eating each night. I know what ingredients I need. And if I want to change my mind — I can. But I have already given myself the freedom of not having to think about it.
That freedom, my friend, is available to you too.
Grab your free Meal Planning as Easy as 1-2-3 toolkit — it includes everything you need to get started today, including my Brain Dump and Menu Templates that do most of the thinking for you.
Put on some music. Light a candle. Grab the tutu if you need it — no judgment here.
This process can be genuinely easy and enjoyable. We are taking it one week at a time, and I am with you every step of the way. Eventually you will be planning a whole month of meals without breaking a sweat. But for now — one week. That is all.
Ready? Let us go.
What does not get on the calendar does not get done.
If you want to take the stress out of managing family meals, you have to protect the time to plan them. Right now — before you finish reading this post — block time on your calendar for meal planning this week.
A few hints to make it work:
This one step alone will change your dinner experience. Decisions made when you are rested cost you almost nothing. The same decisions made at 5pm cost you everything.
I know — that sounds like two things. But I promise it is one simple, satisfying process.
If you download the Meal Planning as Easy as 1-2-3 toolkit, the categories are already laid out for you on a Brain Dump page. All you have to do is fill in what your family actually eats.
Start with your protein types — chicken, ground beef, pork, red meat, fish, vegetarian. Then add sides, salads, pasta dishes, potato dishes, whatever rounds out a meal in your home.
Within each category, brainstorm the dishes your family already loves. This is not the time for the Martha Stewart cookbook. This is the time for the Tuesday night chicken that everyone actually eats without complaint.
The goal is simple: build a master list of 30-40 meal ideas that live on your computer or in your planner. Every week when you sit down to plan, you pull up that list and your work is already halfway done.
I have kept and updated my master meal list for years. It is one of the best things I have ever done for my future self.
Now the fun part — actually building your week.
Use the One Week Menu template from the Meal Planning as Easy as 1-2-3 toolkit and follow this simple sequence:
Dedicating time to meal planning is a win all by itself. Block the time, pull out the tutu, put on a playlist, and get started.
Download the free Meal Planning as Easy as 1-2-3 toolkit — including the Brain Dump page, the One Week Menu Template, and as a bonus, some of my favorite family recipes from years gone by delivered over the coming weeks.

And if you would love some personal support getting your family rhythms and routines into a plan that actually works for your life — a Free Clarity Call is a great place to start. We can look at where the friction is and build something sustainable together.
Which of these three steps feels most doable for you to start with this week?
