Surrender is not giving up on your children.
It doesn’t mean you stop praying, stop parenting, or stop showing up. It means you stop believing that your children’s future depends solely on your ability to control every outcome.
Surrender is not abandoning your calling.
God didn’t ask you to lay down your purpose. He asked you to trust Him with the results. Your obedience is your responsibility. The outcome belongs to Him.
Surrender is not failing.
Many moms secretly think,
“If I surrender, it means I couldn’t handle it.”
The truth? None of us were designed to handle everything alone. Surrender isn’t failure—it’s acknowledging the truth that God never intended you to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders.
Surrender is not becoming lazy or passive.
Surrender doesn’t say,
“I guess I’ll just do nothing.”
Instead it says,
“Lord, I’ll faithfully do what You’ve asked me to do today, and I’ll trust You with everything I cannot control.”
Surrender is not letting go of love.
It’s letting go of control.
Surrender is exchanging control for trust.
Instead of gripping tighter, you open your hands and say, “Lord, these children are Yours before they’re mine.“
Surrender is recognizing your limits without feeling guilty for having them.
You’re human.
You’re a mom.
You’re tired.
God isn’t asking you to be limitless.
He’s inviting you to lean on the One who is.
Surrender is trading anxiety for dependence. (Honestly, this is easier said than done…but keep reading, I think you’ll find some simple ways to BEGIN the journey.)
Instead of replaying every conversation…
Instead of worrying about tomorrow…
Instead of carrying mom guilt like a backpack full of bricks…
You begin asking,
“Jesus, what does faithfulness look like today?”
Notice the difference.
Not forever.
Not next year.
Today.
Surrender is living open-handed.
Open-handed with your plans.
Open-handed with your expectations.
Open-handed with your timeline.
Open-handed with your children’s choices.
Because closed fists can’t receive what God wants to place inside them.
Surrender is resting in God’s ability instead of striving in your own.
The pressure shifts.
From:
“I have to keep everything together.”
To:
“God is holding us together, and I get to walk with Him today.”
Imagine carrying eight overstuffed grocery bags from the car because you refuse to make two trips.
Your arms ache.
Your fingers are numb.
You’re dropping things.
Then someone walks over and says,
“Let me carry those.”
Surrender isn’t throwing the groceries on the ground.
It’s trusting someone stronger to help carry what was crushing you.
That’s exactly what Jesus invites us to do.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
Beloved, surrender isn’t waving a white flag because you’ve lost.
It’s placing your life, your children, your calling, and your worries into the hands of the One who has never lost.
You don’t surrender because you’re weak.
You surrender because God is strong.
And that changes everything.
