“Okay, today, let’s talk goats. Now, hang with me before we do anything else today. I need to tell you about these goats.
Actually, two goats. My husband and I took our young grandson to a petting zoo last summer. And needless to say, we had to feed the baby goats.
And so at the moment, those baby goats spotted my grandson with his little bottle. They started running to him, jumping on him, nibbling at his clothes, bumping into his legs. They were relentless.
They would not let him go. And bless his heart, he was so patient and kind of didn’t know what to do while these chaotic creatures were completely going feral around him. As a grandma, I just kind of sat back and laughed because it was so cute and so funny.
But then as I got to thinking about goats, I have another goat experience. This was one where me and my husband, my husband and I, we were in Italy. We were climbing up this big hill, which you do a lot of in Italy, to a vineyard.
And when we got to the top of the hill, there he was, positioned with confidence “and a little intimidating, a fully grown goat. It was like he owned the hillside. He was so confident.
He was looking at us like, Yes, I know exactly who I am. Do you? Same animal, completely different postures.
The only difference was the time, tending, and a shepherd who did not give up when the going got rough. Today, we are talking goats. I promise you, by the time we’re done, you will never read the Song of Solomon in the same way again.
You will never look at your most stubborn, chaotic, most headstrong child the same way. And you might not look at yourself the same way either. Because here’s something new that I discovered in my conversation with Dr. Charity last week that is splashing over into this week’s podcast episode.
“That stubborn goat God has given you to tend is someday going to be the goat. And it starts with understanding what it means to be the least. Hey there, welcome back to Mom2Mom MENTORING.
This is Wise Counsel for Christian Working Moms. I’m Misty Hughes, podcast host, gratitude guide, celebration coach, and an ICF accredited women’s life and leadership coach. I am here for you no matter what season of life you’re in.
Whether it’s learning how to tend the goats that God has so graciously and kindly given to you, or whether it’s celebrating the new season that God has put you in, you are in the right place here at Mom2Mom MENTORING. If you missed last week’s conversation, go back and listen to part one of this conversation I have with Dr. Charity. It is the foundation for everything that we’re talking about today.
But if you caught the teaser at the end of the episode and you came back specifically to hear about goats, I’m so glad that you are here. Now, this episode is a little bit different. It’s a teaching.
“It’s me. It’s you. And it is the Word of God with the voice of a brilliant woman that I had the privilege of sitting with last week, woven in throughout the conversation, because what she said confirmed everything that I had learned in the Word of God years ago and tried to put into practice for my own life and my home.
And before we dive in, if this kind of conversation is what you’re hungry for, what you long for, I would like to invite you to come and find our Facebook community. It’s called Christian Moms in Business and Ministry. It’s a place where we can tend to each other and refuse to let each other stay stuck.
The link is in the show notes. So come on home to the Christian Moms in Business and Ministry Facebook group. So, like I said, today we’re going to be diving in to the Word of God.
“And I want to start with a book of the Bible that completely transformed my life, Song of Solomon. Now, I know that some of you are already wiggling in your seats because you look at the Song of Solomon like it’s this hot and heated romance novel. And parts of it are kind of risqué, but it’s also one of the deepest wells of wisdom about how God relates to us in our weakness, as well as what it means to be truly awakened to the love of Christ in a way that causes us to ravish his heart.
So, there’s a moment in Chapter 1 where the Shulamite woman, the bride, is crying out. She’s asking, where are you? How do I find you?
I don’t know where to go. All she can see is her own darkness, but she longs to be with the one that she loves. And the shepherd is Jesus in this allegory.”
